Over/Under Advanced: Quarter Lines 2.25 & 2.75 Explained
Quarter Over/Under lines (2.25, 2.75, 1.75 and so on) split your stake 50/50 across two adjacent lines, just like quarter handicaps. The .25 lines split into the whole number below and the half number above (2.25 = 2.0 + 2.5). The .75 lines split into the half number below and the whole number above (2.75 = 2.5 + 3.0). Example: on Over 2.25, if 2 goals are scored, the 2.0 half is refunded and the 2.5 half loses — this is a "half loss". If 3 or more goals are scored, both halves win.
Over/Under lines and total goals
The Over/Under market refers to the total number of goals in a match. Like handicaps, it has three types of lines: full, half and quarter. The basics of this market are covered in our market types guide: Types of Football Markets: A Beginner's Guide to 1X2, Handicap & Over/Under. The quarter-split logic here is the same as the Asian quarter handicap — see Asian Handicap Deep Dive: Half-Ball & Quarter-Ball (0.25 / 0.75).
The three types of Over/Under lines
- Whole number (2.0, 3.0): if the total goals exactly equal the line, the stake is refunded (push). Over 2.0: exactly 2 goals = full refund.
- Half number (2.5, 3.5): no push. Over 2.5 wins with 3+ goals, loses with 2 or fewer.
- Quarter number (2.25, 2.75): the stake splits 50/50 across two adjacent lines.
How quarter lines split
The split rule:
- .25 lines (1.25, 2.25, 3.25): whole number below + half number above. Example: 2.25 = 2.0 + 2.5.
- .75 lines (1.75, 2.75, 3.75): half number below + whole number above. Example: 2.75 = 2.5 + 3.0.
Some platforms display these as two numbers, for example "Over 2.0, 2.5" means Over 2.25.
Over 2.25 step by step
You stake RM100 on Over 2.25 (RM50 on Over 2.0, RM50 on Over 2.5):
- 3 or more goals: both halves win (full win).
- Exactly 2 goals: the Over 2.0 half pushes (refunded), the Over 2.5 half loses. This is a half loss — half the stake lost, half refunded.
- 1 or fewer goals: both halves lose.
Over 2.75 step by step
You stake RM100 on Over 2.75 (RM50 on Over 2.5, RM50 on Over 3.0):
- 4 or more goals: both halves win (full win).
- Exactly 3 goals: the Over 2.5 half wins, the Over 3.0 half pushes (refunded). This is a half win.
- 2 or fewer goals: both halves lose.
Under works in reverse
For Under, the logic is reversed. On Under 2.75 (splits into Under 2.5 and Under 3.0):
- 2 or fewer goals: both halves win.
- Exactly 3 goals: the Under 3.0 half pushes, the Under 2.5 half loses. This is a half loss.
- 4 or more goals: both halves lose.
How to calculate a half win
Say you stake RM100 on Over 2.75 at decimal odds 1.90, and 3 goals are scored (half win):
- The winning half (Over 2.5): RM50 × 1.90 = RM95 (RM50 stake + RM45 profit)
- The pushed half (Over 3.0): RM50 refunded
- Total return: RM95 + RM50 = RM145 (net profit RM45)

Why use quarter lines
Quarter lines reduce the worst-case loss compared to half lines. On Over 2.5, if 2 goals are scored you lose in full. On Over 2.25, if 2 goals are scored you only lose half because the 2.0 portion is refunded. It gives partial protection when the goal total might land near the line.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- What does Over 2.25 mean and how is it settled?
- Over 2.25 splits your stake 50/50 across Over 2.0 and Over 2.5. If 3 or more goals are scored, both halves win. If exactly 2 goals, the 2.0 half is refunded and the 2.5 half loses — a half loss. If 1 or fewer goals, both halves lose.
- What is the difference between a .25 and a .75 line?
- A .25 line (like 2.25) splits into the whole number below and the half number above: 2.25 = 2.0 + 2.5. A .75 line (like 2.75) splits into the half number below and the whole number above: 2.75 = 2.5 + 3.0.
- On Over 2.75, what happens if 3 goals are scored?
- Over 2.75 splits into Over 2.5 and Over 3.0. With exactly 3 goals, the Over 2.5 half wins and the Over 3.0 half is refunded — producing a half win. Example RM100 at odds 1.90: return RM145 (RM45 profit).
