What Is BTTS (Both Teams to Score)?
BTTS (Both Teams to Score) means betting on whether BOTH teams will score at least one goal in the match. "Yes" wins if both teams score (e.g. 1-1, 2-1, 3-2); "No" wins if at least one team fails to score (e.g. 1-0, 0-0). The total number of goals does not matter — only whether both sides score. It is settled on 90 minutes (including injury time), excluding extra time. Own goals count, credited to the team that benefits. Rules can differ between platforms, so always check your platform's terms.
What BTTS is
BTTS stands for "Both Teams to Score". It is a simple market: you bet on whether BOTH teams will score at least one goal. There are only two options:
- Yes: wins if both teams score at least one goal.
- No: wins if at least one team fails to score.
What matters is not who wins or how many goals — only whether both sides score. The basics of other market types are covered in our guide: Types of Football Markets: A Beginner's Guide to 1X2, Handicap & Over/Under.
Example results
- 1-1, 2-1, 3-2, 2-3 → BTTS Yes (both scored)
- 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 → BTTS No (one team did not score)
- 0-0 → BTTS No (neither team scored)
Note: a 4-0 scoreline LOSES for "Yes" despite many goals, because one team did not score. Conversely, 1-1 WINS for "Yes" despite few goals.
The 90-minute rule
BTTS is settled on the result after 90 minutes (including injury time), NOT including extra time and penalties. This matters in knockout matches: if a match is 0-0 after 90 minutes but becomes 1-1 in extra time, BTTS still settles as No — because extra time does not count. How to read settlement terms is explained here: How to Understand a Platform's Settlement Rules.
Own goals count
A point that often surprises beginners: own goals DO count for BTTS. An own goal is credited to the team that benefits, not the player who scored it. For example, if a Team A player scores an own goal, it counts as a goal for Team B. So if both goals in a 1-1 match come from own goals, BTTS "Yes" still wins.
Disallowed goals (e.g. for offside or by VAR) do NOT count.
When the market settles
BTTS can settle as soon as both teams have scored — there is no need to wait for the match to end. For example, if a match becomes 1-1 in the 30th minute, the BTTS "Yes" market has already won and is settled, regardless of what happens afterwards. If only one team has scored by the 90th minute, then "No" wins.
BTTS vs Over/Under
BTTS is often confused with over/under, but they measure different things:
- BTTS: whether BOTH teams score (focus on who scores).
- Over/Under: whether the TOTAL goals go over/under a line (focus on the number of goals).
For example, 1-1 is BTTS "Yes" but fails "Over 2.5" (only 2 goals). Conversely, 3-0 is "Over 2.5" but BTTS "No". The over/under concept is explained here: Over/Under Advanced: Quarter Lines 2.25 & 2.75 Explained.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- Do own goals count in BTTS?
- Yes. Own goals count for BTTS, credited to the team that benefits, not the player who scored it. If a Team A player scores an own goal, it counts as a goal for Team B. So if both teams score (including via an own goal), BTTS "Yes" wins.
- Does extra time count in BTTS?
- No. BTTS is settled on 90 minutes (including injury time), not including extra time and penalties. If a match is 0-0 after 90 minutes but becomes 1-1 in extra time, BTTS still settles as "No".
- What is the difference between BTTS and Over/Under?
- BTTS measures whether both teams score, while over/under measures the total number of goals. For example, 1-1 is BTTS "Yes" but fails Over 2.5 (only 2 goals). A 3-0 scoreline is Over 2.5 but BTTS "No". They measure different things.
