What Is HT/FT Betting (Half Time / Full Time)?

HT/FT (Half Time/Full Time) betting is a wager where you predict TWO results in the same match: the result at half-time AND the result at full-time. There are 9 possible combinations, formed by pairing the three half-time results (1/X/2) with the three full-time results. Both predictions must be correct to win. The odds are higher than a standard 1X2 bet because you are predicting two things at once. This market is settled on the 90-minute result only — extra time and penalties do not count.

What HT/FT means

HT/FT stands for Half Time / Full Time. It is a market where you predict two results in one match: who is leading at the half-time break (after 45 minutes), and who wins at full-time (after 90 minutes). The basics of the 1X2 market are covered in our market types guide: Types of Football Markets: A Beginner's Guide to 1X2, Handicap & Over/Under.

Each half has three possible results, written as 1 (home/first team leading), X (draw), or 2 (away/second team leading).

The 9 possible combinations

Pairing the three half-time results with the three full-time results gives 9 combinations:

  • 1/1 — home leads at half-time, home wins at full-time
  • 1/X — home leads at half-time, draw at full-time
  • 1/2 — home leads at half-time, away wins at full-time
  • X/1 — draw at half-time, home wins at full-time
  • X/X — draw at both half-time and full-time
  • X/2 — draw at half-time, away wins at full-time
  • 2/1 — away leads at half-time, home wins at full-time
  • 2/X — away leads at half-time, draw at full-time
  • 2/2 — away leads at half-time, away wins at full-time

How it settles

Both parts of the prediction must be exactly right. For example, if you pick X/1 (draw at half-time, home win at full-time), your bet wins ONLY if the match is genuinely level at the break AND the home team wins at the end of 90 minutes. If the home team is already ahead at half-time (so the half-time result is 1, not X), your X/1 bet loses — even though the home team ultimately wins the match.

This is the key feature of HT/FT: you can correctly predict the winner and still lose if the half-time result differs from your prediction.

Settled on 90 minutes only

HT/FT markets are settled on the 90-minute result (including injury time) only. Goals in extra time and penalty shootouts do NOT count. So in a knockout match, even if one team advances on penalties, HT/FT still settles on the 90-minute result.

Why the odds are higher

Because you are predicting two results in one match, the probability of getting both right is lower than predicting a single result. The operator offers higher odds to reflect the greater risk. "Turnaround" combinations like 2/1 or 1/2 (one team leads but the other wins) are the rarest, so they carry the highest odds — sometimes above 20.00.

Keep in mind: high odds reflect low probability, not better "value". The operator's margin still applies, and the long-term expectation remains negative.

Different from a parlay

HT/FT looks like two bets combined, but it is one market within a single match, not a parlay across several matches. How parlays work is explained here: What Is a Mix Parlay? A Beginner's Guide to How It's Calculated. Some platforms allow HT/FT to be included as one selection within a larger parlay.

This article is for educational purposes and does not encourage anyone to gamble. Understanding the HT/FT structure does not guarantee winning and does not change the operator's margin. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does X/1 mean in HT/FT betting?
X/1 means you predict the match is drawn at half-time and the home team wins at full-time. Both conditions must occur for the bet to win. If the home team is already leading at half-time, the X/1 bet loses even if they win the match.
Does extra time count in HT/FT markets?
No. HT/FT markets are settled on the 90-minute result (including injury time) only. Goals in extra time and penalty shootouts do not count, even in a knockout match.
Why are HT/FT odds higher than the 1X2 market?
Because HT/FT requires two correct predictions in one match (half-time and full-time), the probability is lower, so the operator offers higher odds. Turnaround combinations like 2/1 are the rarest and carry the highest odds. High odds reflect low probability, not better value.
